This oral history documents the professional career and technical accomplishments of Richard (Rich) Witek, an engineer well known for his work at Apple, DEC, and AMD.
The interview highlights his central role in CPUs that pushed the boundaries of speed and low power. His narrative offers a first-person of several important projects in his career including: the DEC MicroVAX, early Alpha processors, the development of the StrongARM and PowerPC for Apple, the Alchemy MIPS processors, the AMD Bobcat processor, and finally ultralow power DSPs.
Through a detailed recounting of his career, he tells of his ability to combine expertise in both hardware and software to build more optimized machines.
