[Recorded on December 19, 2025]
At the end of December, 2025 a copy of the only known surving copy of the source code from the first version of the Unix operating system written in the C programming language was recovered by software curator Al Kossow at the Computer History Museum in Silicon Valley. The tape was preserved at the University of Utah and was discovered a month before in a store room. This video describes what Al does as a software curator at the museum and goes into detail about the process to recover data saved on old magnetic tapes.
