On this day in 1991, Nintendo release its second home console in North America, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The SNES raised the bar for video games at home, and sparked the first "console war" with SEGA. Eventually Sony and Microsoft would enter the battlefield as well, but the SNES showed just how big a business gaming would become.
