We take a look at the latest 2025 refresh of the "penultimate" Commodore VIC-20 cartridge, the Penultimate+3dcr, developed by Tynemouth Software and produced and distributed by The Future Was 8-Bit. In addition to the existing 35K RAM expansion, a new 8-bank 280K mode has been added. More games and utilities have been added to the ROM, for a new total of 271 programs. And a full-size SD card drive has been added, complete with "Turbo Wedge" to make disk access fast and easy. We do a bit of gaming, and spend some time trying to get SuperMon working with the new 280K mode to demonstrate bank switching. We also go through many of the disk wedge commands available, and compare and contrast it against JiffyDOS.
