David Bohnett, founder of GeoCities, recounts his journey from early fascination with telecommunication and computing to pioneering online community building in the 1990s. After work in software development and activism in LGBT rights, Bohnett created GeoCities to democratize the emerging World Wide Web through user-generated content and virtual neighborhoods. His story traces the evolution of early Internet culture, the challenges of scaling online platforms before the cloud era, and the social ideals behind connecting people through technology. The interview captures a pivotal transition from static web publishing to participatory digital culture.
